Biography of trainers:
Andrea- worked since 1993 at Family Planning, RN and RM, also B.HthSc(Nursing)
Vicky- B.Indigenous Studies SCU, Train the Trainer Certificate
Previous experience teaching the course:
Andrea- 16 years in providing sexual and reproductive health education to schools and community groups
Vicky- over 4 years experience in delivering education on sexual health, reproduction and blood borne viruses, targeting Aboriginal communities
Brief description of course:
Basic grounding in sexual and reproductive health, with emphasis on educating youth and welfare workers. Aim is to raise awareness of workers so that their clients are empowered with knowledge and also information about where to get help.
Key subject areas covered:
Female and male reproductive anatomy and physiology, conception, contraception, pregnancy testing and options (e.g. termination info), sexual health including prevention of STI’s, testing and treatment
Benefits for participant or participant’s organisation in attending the course:
Raising awareness about important issues for their clients by presenting factual, up to date information.
Promoting relevant local services.
The target group for this course is:
Youth, health and welfare workers who work with aboriginal and non aboriginal clients of child bearing age.
