NRSDC will be hosting a one-day cross sector forum on the Keeping Them Safe reform to the Child Protection system at Ballina on Thursday 28 October.

A free information session for women about workplace rights and the law will be held in Lismore on Monday 13 September, with Karin Ness, Community Legal Education Officer from the Northern Rivers Community Legal Centre in partnership with the Lismore Women’s Resource Centre.

The Family Centre in Tweed Heads is holding a new workshop Holding Successful Tough Conversations on Saturday 11 September, 2010.

The Family Centre in Tweed have two upcoming workshops on parenting; Anger and Parenting on 17 September and Self Care for Parents on 23 September.

This course is intended to give the participant a better understanding of Aboriginal culture and the significancce of historical events in this country.   It also examines the impact generated by colonisation on present day society.  It will be held in Goonellabah on Friday 24 September 2010.

The YWCA is facilitating a free workshop about creative approaches to discipline for people working in early childhood settings.  It will be held on 16 September in Goonellabah.

The Men and Family Centre in Lismore are holding a Changes course for men, which will be held three hours a week for 12 weeks.  The course begins Thursday 16 September.

Mullumbimby Neighbourhood Centre, Womens Resource Centre is facilitating a seven week group for women who have experienced domestic violence in their lives.  It begins Wednesday 11 August.

ACE Lismore Community College is running Keep them Safe Training on 24 August and 13 September and Child Protection Workshops on 20 and 27 October 2010.

Lismore City Council invites community groups within the Lismore local government area to apply for this free one day workshop.  The workshop will provide information and assistance with sourcing, applying for, implementing and acquitting for a range of Council and other funding.   Two sessions will be run, the first on Tuesday 28 September and the second Wednesday 27 October. 

Non-government organisations (NGOs) that receive funding from Community Services, children’s services and other mandatory reporters are eligible to attend free child protection training courses.  The two day Identify and Respond to Children and Young People at Risk will be held in Coffs Harbour 7-8 September and 9-10 November in Tweed Heads.

The Family Centre is conducting a five week course for parents and children 7-13 years, to strengthen family relationships and build family resilience, in a nurturing fun and creative environment.  The course will be run on Wednesdays from 18 August and will be held in South Tweed.

Free pratical training sessions about the law, designed for community workers, will be held in Lismore and Tweed Heads from August to November 2010.

Effective Ways of Engaging Men is Australia’s leading men’s health promotion training program that focuses on how we can more effectively communicate health and wellbeing messages to men what agencies and organisations need to know about making their services, programs and resources more men friendly to achieve the best possible outcomes for men and boys.   It will be held in Lismore on 10 September 2010.

NRSDC will present Introduction to Narrative Therapy in Goonellabah on 26-27 July 2010.  This two day basic skills workshop offers an introduction to the theory and practice of narrative therapy. 

Byron Community College is conducting a Diploma in Community Services.  This qualification is for people who want the knowledge and skills to work at a supervisory level in the community services sector, across a range of organizations involved in community work, community development and community care services.  Some funded positions are available see below.

The Abuse of Older Adults Prevention Training program has been developed by the Northern Rivers Abuse of Older Adults Prevention Project, Northern Rivers Social Development Council (NRSDC), funded by the National Community Crime Prevention Programme, an Australian Government Initiative. The program is the result of extensive 2 year consultation with service providers working within the aged care sector, and is based on a comprehensive interagency training manual that was developed as part of this process.
