StandBy Response Service

The StandBy Response Service is a community-based postvention program delivered by Northern Rivers Social Development Council providing 24-hour response to friends, families, associates and communities bereaved by suicide. Suicide is a time of immense crisis and the tragedy of suicide loss can create trauma, deeply affecting individuals, families and entire communities. In many cases those bereaved do not know where to turn for help or how to find supports that may already exist. The Standby Response Service provides a reliable single point of service coordination and contact, offering respect, understanding and support for the health and well being of people bereaved by suicide, Call 0417 119298 - 24 hours 7 days per week

Training Alert: Youth Mental Health First Aid

This 2-day course will be held at Crowley Meeting & Education Centre, 154 Cherry St Ballina on Weds 30th & Thurs 31st July.

This program commenced in 2007 and is designed to train adults to assist young people in mental health crisis situations and/or in the early stages of mental health problems.

Training Alert: Peer Presentation: Hoarding and Squalor Info Session

This introductory level session will be held at Northern Rivers Social Development Council Boardroom, Killclare House, 16 Keen St, Lismore on Thursday 14th August.

Deaf Awareness Training

Deaf people can experience challenges when communicating with their work colleagues, who may also not be aware of the access needs of deaf employees.

To help you overcome these issues, The Deaf Society of NSW has developed a range of informative and practical Deaf Awareness Training (DAT) courses which are designed to improve your understanding of and awareness of sign language, deaf culture, deaf people and communication and access issues deaf people face in the work place.

Tenancy Training Workshops for Community Workers

In August, Redfern Legal Centre's specialist tenancy advocates will present free training for NSW community workers on tenancy.

You can attend the workshops: in person at Redfern: At the wheelchair-accessible Redfern Town Hall, 5 minutes walk from Redfern Station, and 10 minutes walk from Central Station; or online - webinars (online training seminars) are accessible across NSW. It's easy on your PC, Mac, iPad, iPhone or Android phone or tablet.

Training in Street Art for Youth Workers

LGBTIQ DV Training

A fantastic training opportunity has come up for workers in the Northern Rivers region to build their knowledge and capacity in addressing domestic and family violence in Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender, Intersex and Queer (LGBTIQ) communities, on Thursday 31 July 2014. LGBTIQ people experience domestic violence at similar rates to people in heterosexual relationships, but have significantly lower reporting rates. As a result, the LGBTIQ Community is a vulnerable and at-risk group, experiencing social isolation and multiple legal issues.

Seeking Volunteers for Michael Kendrick Training

Ageing, Disability and Home Care (ADHC) has funded international trainer Michael Kendrick to run a two-week training course in August and September this year. (August 11-15 & September 1-5 2014 ) The course is about developing trainees skills in helping people with disability to make plans to improve their life.

You may be interested in assisting the trainees in the course by being a ‘focus person’ for their training.

Family Centre Term 3 Course Program

The Family Centre has released its Term 3 Course Program, with courses on parenting, relationships and wellbeing.

Training Alert: The Emotionally Intelligent Leader

An introductory level course; the day will open with an introduction to where emotional intelligence (EI) came from, a bit about the science behind it, why it’s useful in business and in life and where the GENOS model came from.

It’s on at House With No Steps (function room in café), 253 Wardell Road, Alstonville, Thursday 31st July 2014 – 9.30am - 4.00pm.

Mental Health First Aid

Accredited Mental Health First Aid training will be run in in Lismore in August, Thursday 21st & Thursday 28th. The course is open to the general public and professionals needing to undertake professional development.

Working with People who have a Physical Disability and Dementia

The rescheduled Physical Disability Council of NSW and Alzheimer’s Australia’s ‘’Working with People who have a Physical Disability and Dementia’’ workshop (which was postponed earlier this month) is back on - Wednesday 3 and Thursday 4 September, 2014. 

Certificate IV in Mentoring Diverse Groups (Indigenous Mentoring)

Retaining Indigenous employees and building cultural capacity are two important issues for employers. This course from Across Culture is designed to address these issues and to increase the productivity of new and existing employees.

Alstonville in August is the scene for an excellent 2-day professionals self-harming workshop with Melbourne based training organisation SafeinOz.
