Getting a better deal for people with disabilities PDF Print E-mail

For around 18 months Eva and Peter Sullivan have been participating in a Task Force convened by Northern Rivers Community Transport aimed at getting a better deal for people with disabilities who rely on wheelchair accessible vehicles to engage in activities fundamental to daily living.

Developing an understanding about how easily one can become isolated from the community is an important part of this process. Today’s edition of the Northern Star discusses some of these issues.

There is also the opportunity for you to add your support by completing a short survey relating to problems in NSW whereby the level of subsidy for people requiring wheelchair accessible taxis is the worst in Australia. This problem is really  bad in rural and regional Australia where distances can be great and alternate transport options are limited or do not exist.
