Northern Rivers Housing Forum

Home and Community Care (HACC) Services provide supports to older Australians, younger people with a disability and their carers to enable them to live more independently at home in the community.  The NRSDC HACC Development program aims to improve the capacity of HACC Service infrastructure to deliver quality services, which respond to client needs, including special needs groups and also to  work collaboratively with the community service sector to build a strong cohesive community care system.

The program aims to ensure families and carers of people living with a mental illness receive appropriate support, information, education and skill development to fulfil their caring role, while maintaining their own health and wellbeing.

Dementia Care Education Project PDF Print E-mail

The Dementia Care Education Project  provides direct support to carers of people living with dementia through the provision of education and information. The project provides small group education to the carers of people living with dementia. These carers are unpaid relatives or friends. More often than not they are the aged spouses living in rural and remote areas without formal support mechanisms and without public transport to get to services. The groups provide the carers with information about services, counselling, strategies to support them in their caring role and also referral to services that suit their needs.

 
Public transport unsuitable for older people - NRMA PDF Print E-mail

A report from the NRMA claims that public transport is unsuitable for older people and that it is a myth that they can use it when they limit or stop driving. It highlights the very high growth in the number of older people in coastal regions such as the Richmond/Tweed and the South East.
