Public Transport Development Project (PTDP) is a regional initiative working towards increased access and opportunities for all residents of the Northern Rivers Region by developing relevant, effective and accessible publicly available transport services and infrastructure. The Project reflects the organisation’s view that public transport has an important future in the region, if strong partnerships can be fostered between Government, industry and the community.

Now in its 12th year the Project is moving towards the development of a Regional approach to transport issues and increasing it linkages with other projects across the State.

The Project is active in:

  • Policy Development and Advocacy
  • Community Consultation
  • Service Planning and Development
  • Marketing and Promotion
  • Research and Evaluation
  • Raising community awareness.

A major focus of the Project has been the development of Local Government area Public Transport Working Groups to respond to local needs. These groups have developed a range of initiatives including:

  • Convening forums and consultation mechanisms to engage the community on issues related to Pubic Transport
  • Developing submissions for Public Transport infrastructure, ie bus stops, interchanges, transit centres, signage.
  • Researching transport needs and planning services in response to community need
  • Providing comment on Local Government Strategic Plans, Local Environment Plans, Development Applications etc.
  • Promoting Public Transport Promotion weeks and raising awareness of existing services

The project also aims to:

  • Seek funding for innovative transport demonstration projects.
  • Advocate for improved public transport development in rural and regional NSW.
  • Promote equity in transport concessions across NSW.
  • Integration of transport and land use planning.
  • Improve access for residents to Government Community services and promote active transport (cycling and walking)
