Now is the time for people from the Clarence Valley to the Tweed to speak out on their transport issues. Transport for NSW has just released a Discussion Paper which examines key transport issues, challenges and opportunities for Sydney and regional NSW as part of the development of a draft NSW Long Term Transport Master Plan, to be released in mid 2012.

A ground-breaking new project designed to educate people with a lived experience of mental illness and help them enter paid employment in the mental health sector is now underway and getting great results. The Lived Experience Project (LEP), an initiative of the Northern Rivers Social Development Council (NRSDC), currently has 29 participants across the Northern Rivers region preparing to become peer support workers while studying Certificate IV in Community Services at ACE North Coast.

Northern Rivers Social Development Council today welcomed Fair Work Australia’s decision to grant significant increases to community sector workers. The decision in the long running Equal Remuneration Case recognises that 150,000 community service workers around Australia are currently not fairly paid for the work that they do. The decision grants increases of between 18% and 41%.

After careful deliberation by a panel of judges, including Lismore Mayor Jenny Dowell, Page MP Janelle Saffin, RDA NR Chair Ian Tiley and Ben Roche from SCU, a selection of Northern Rivers community services workers have been short-listed as finalists for the Community Sector Ball Awards. Award winners will be announced at the Community Sector Ball and Awards Night on Saturday, November 5 and major prizes will be presented by award sponsor North Coast Community Housing.
