The NSW Domestic Violence Committee Coalition has announced the Black & Blue Campaign 2008. The forum titled “Understanding Why Women Die: Domestic Violence Homicide Review” will be held on Thursday September 18th 2008 from 10.00- 2.00 pm. It is being held at the Citigate Sebel, 28 Albion Street Surry Hills, a short walk from Central Station.
This Forum will provide a comprehensive overview of the domestic violence related homicide review process, what it is, how it works, who should participate in a review board and what needs to be considered in establishing a Domestic Violence Homicide Review.

Experts in the field will share their knowledge of evidence based best practice models, current international research trends, the successes of overseas domestic violence fatality reviews and the changes to systems and practices that have resulted in significant reductions in domestic violence related fatalities. Presenters include:

Nadia David, Policy Officer for the Commonwealth Attorney-General's Department, former NSW Police Prosecutor and author of “Exploring the Use of Domestic Violence Fatality Review Teams (2007)

Betty Taylor, in 2002 was awarded a Churchill Fellowship to investigate multi-agency interventions to domestic violence across the USA and Canada, this included looking at domestic violence death reviews.

Julie Stewart, Project Officer, Women's Domestic Violence Court Advocacy Program, Legal Aid NSW. Julie is a highly regarded researcher and expert in the domestic violence field.

Panel Discussion: The Panel will provide an opportunity for questions and begin the discussion to determine the way forward.
