A Tenancy Support Program (TSP) that assists families to sustain their tenancies is underway in the Lismore/ Richmond area. It's a valuable service provided by On Track Community Programs funded by the NSW Department of Human Services under the NSW Homelessness Action Plan.
TSP - What is it?
- The main aim of the Tenancy Support Program is to assist families with accompanying children to sustain their tenancies and prevent evictions from all types of tenures (public and private). Preventing homelessness is the overarching goal.
Ways in which the TSP can help
- The TSP aims to coordinate services and case management around the family to sustain the tenancy and get the best possible outcome. Referrals are made where services are not linked in. Examples of issues addressed can be tenancy difficulties, budgeting, debt, life skills, interpersonal issues, parenting, domestic violence.
- Brokered funds can be provided to assist with rent arrears, property repairs and other services that strengthen the families ability to maintain the tenancy.
- TSP also aims to improve collaboration between government and non government agencies. Recommendations are made around areas of needed improvement.
Criteria
- Must be a family (can be a single parent) with a child or children under 18
- Must have a lease or be able to prove tenancy
- Tenancy must be at risk – For example letters sent asking to address issues, rent arrears, termination notice, CTTT
- For financial brokerage to be provided the tenancy must be sustainable. Eg Agent must be willing to continue with tenancy and provide letter stating so.
- Live in LGA of Lismore, Ballina, Casino, Kyogle for the Richmond Service. TSP is also provided in the areas of Tweed and Grafton by On Track.
- Family must be willing to consent to and engage in the service.
