Brief Description of Course:
The Aboriginal Cultural Awareness session is a one day course that will provide
participants with a better understanding of the diverse cultural differences in Aboriginal cultures, as well as a basic understanding of the problems facing Aboriginal people in contemporary Australian society.
This interactive workshop provides an opportunity for participants to briefly walk in the
shoes of Aboriginal Australians and allows for individuals to dramatically increase their appreciation, understanding and respect for Aboriginal people, their cultures and
societies.
Key subject areas covered:
The content covers the impact of European colonisation and major features of
contemporary Aboriginal cultures and societies, as well as a local component of events
and issues that have impacted on the Aboriginal tribes of the Bundjalung Nation.
Benefits for participant’s organisation in attending the course:
Assist with developing culturally appropriate and community sensitive strategies that
deliver tangible outcomes for business and Aboriginal communities.
Dramatically increase the organisations knowledge and understanding of the cultural and structural barriers that inhibit effective consultation and negotiation with Aboriginal
people.
This course is aimed at:
The course targets frontline community workers who want to increase their knowledge and understanding of cultural diversity and the value it can add in the workplace when
interacting and engaging with Aboriginal Australians.
