Mental Health Issues Affecting Older People and their Carers In Community
Care services Part 1
Mental health issues are a key consideration for both Older People and their carers.
This course will outline the key mental health problems facing Older People with medical
and physical problems. It will also focus on mental health issues that can impact on
carers of Older People. Issues such as depression, anxiety disorders and psychiatric
problems will be discussed, as well as ways for HACC workers to identify possible
problems and how to deal with them.
Key subject areas covered:
Mental health for Older People, screening tools to assess mental health and carer stress
and associated problems.
Participant Learning Outcomes:
Participants will develop a knowledge of the presentation of major mental health
problems, the issues affecting both their clients and their carers and practical methods
for screening such problems and referral pathways so that these can be addressed.
The target group for this course is: Community Care Workers: Managers, coordinators,
direct care staff, volunteers
