Advocacy

The Northern Rivers Social Development Council (NRSDC) advocates for a fairer community with a focus on people most disadvantaged and the services helping and supporting them in the Northern Rivers region of New South Wales.

NRSDC works to achieve this by partnering with other organisations such as the NSW Council of Social Services (NCOSS) and the Australian Council of Social Services (ACOSS), as well as other key Local, Regional,State and Federal organisations.

There are many ways in which NRSDC advocates, these include:

Supporting and helping services
Active involvement on committees and forums
The writing of submissions and reports(Click Publications and search for "Submissions"
Media releases
Running and promoting regionally-based events such as conferences, and
Contributing to local and regional social planning

The NRSDC sends out a monthly newsletter at the start of each month, from February to December, along with a mid-month update for any last minute news. Regional Social Priorities ( 7 Articles )

NRSDC has been actively identifying social issues within the region for 30 years. With increased resources through the HACC, Public Transport, and Regional Community Services Development Projects, NRSDC has been able to create stronger links with sections of the community services sector and identify priority regional social issues.

Through various consultative structures such as interagency meetings and forums, NRSDC has been able to identify six key regional social priority areas. To ensure these priority areas remain contemporary and reflect the reality on the ground, NRSDC continues to monitor and analyse social-demographic data and other relevant research.
NRSDC is seeking the region's social and communities services sectors views on social priorities in the Northern Rivers region via an online survey. You can access the survey via this link:
