The Northern Rivers Abuse of Older Adults Prevention Project is a community initiative funded by the Department of the Attorney General aimed at developing an interagency protocol and educational program to assist local service providers in responding to incidences of older adult abuse, and to increase public awareness of the nature, impact, and prevalence of elder abuse within the Northern Rivers region.

older_male.jpgThe core objectives of the project are to: -

  • Develop partnerships to involve the community in the planning and implementation of the Abuse of Older Adults Prevention Project

  • Develop a training and education package for aged care service providers to aide in the identification and awareness of older adult abuse.

  • To develop a local protocol for agencies to assist in clarifying roles, responsibilities, and points of contact in referring suspected cases of older adult abuse.

  • To increase the capacity of communities to deal with older adult abuse by developing public awareness of the nature, prevalence and impact of older adult abuse, and to increase the capacity of a telephone service to identify and respond to incidences of abuse of older adults within the Northern Rivers region.
